Capacity of the Elia grid to accommodate new generation units
Where possible, Elia prefers to connect to existing high-voltage substations so as to avoid having to expand the grid.
Indicative capacities for the main substations in the Elia grid are listed below.

- These data reflect the best estimates for the network and generation facilities in 2011.
- They are not usually cumulative.
- Certain sites are subject to capacity reservation requested by a market player and authorised by the federal minister for energy. You can find the list of sites on the Forecast changes in generation capacity page.
- The given indicative connection capacities can never be used as a substitute for the orientation study phase or the connection request. Available connection capacity must always be confirmed by an orientation study or detailed study, based on the most recent assumptions known to Elia.
