Application for environmental permit for the laying of underground cables

After the information session, in early May 2022, Elia submitted an application for an environmental permit for the laying of new underground cables (150 kV) between the high-voltage substations of “Baasrode” and “Sint-Gillis-Dendermonde.

Works on underground cables

Subject to the approval of the environmental permit, the works for the laying of underground cables will start in early 2023. The new underground cables (150kV) will replace the old high-voltage line (70kV) that was dismantled in 2022. The region will thus be better prepared for the energy transition and Elia will be able to continue to guarantee energy supply in the future.
