Power cuts in Brussels

02-10-2012

This morning at 9 a.m. a technical incident took place on the Elia high-voltage grid at the Bruegel (Dilbeek) substation in western Brussels.

A fault detected in the busbars led to the loss of one quarter of the substation’s supply. This led to the shutdown of lines supplying the transformer substations operated by distribution system operators SIBELGA (Brussels) and Eandis (northern Brussels), as well as voltage disruptions affecting industrial customers connected directly to the high-voltage grid.

It took between 2 and 10 minutes to resume supply to the substation and return the situation on the Elia grid to normal.

The exact cause of the incident has not yet been determined. An analysis will be carried out over the coming days.
