ENTSO-E Winter Outlook
The yearly Winter Outlook published by ENTSO-E, the European network of transmission operators, is now available.
The report concludes that sufficient generation will probably be available throughout Europe to cover expected demand. For Belgium specifically, the strategic reserves are shown to be key in guaranteeing adequacy, especially under severe winter conditions in Belgium and France.
However, concerning the Belgian situation, the report could not yet take into account the latest information about the availability of Doel 3 and Tihange 2. On November 17th, the Belgian nuclear safety authority announced that Doel 3 and Tihange 2 (together about 2000MW capacity) are safe for re-opening. The expected date of entering operation is December 15th.
