Digital information session

Elia will soon submit an environmental permit application to lay a new underground cable between Neerwaasten and Wevelgem. On 25 January 2022, the system operator held a digital information session for affected residents. In total, 34 local residents took part in the session, where they learnt more about the project, the work involved, the schedule and the measures put in place by Elia to minimise disruption for the local area. You can find the full presentation, including explanations about the project and work involved, under 'Documents' on this page. An interactive map showing the exact location of the cable is available under 'The route'.

New underground electricity cable

The existing 70-kV high-voltage line between Neerwaasten and Wevelgem is nearing the end of its service line. It will be dismantled and replaced by a new, 150-kV underground cable. This new cable can transport more electricity. This is necessary in order to prepare the grid for rising energy demand in the area, so that Elia can continue to guarantee a reliable electricity supply for businesses and households.
