Work to lay high-voltage cables in Spendijk and Grensstraat in Olen set to begin on 30 August

Elia is laying 150-kV high-voltage underground cables between Geel and Herentals. The work in Spendijk and Grensstraat in Olen will begin in late August and, according to the current schedule, will take about two months.

Preparatory work to start on 30 August

On Monday, 30 August 2021 Elia will begin preparatory work in various places in Spendijk and Grensstraat

  • In Spendijk between Dr. Luyckxstraat and Langstraat Elia will break up the concrete road surface. This will be done above the area where high-voltage cables will be laid in a trench. The rest of the road surface will not be broken up. Local traffic will remain possible. Through traffic will be diverted locally via Haanheuvel
  • Elia will carry out directional drilling in Grensstraat between the railway line and Witgoor. This part of Grensstraat will be closed to all traffic, including cyclists and pedestrians. Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians will be diverted via Meirenstraat or Scheidijk. Homes and agricultural areas will remain accessible.
  • In Grensstraat between Witgoor and Herentalsedijk the drilling tubes will be welded together and then pulled through the drill hole. Half of the road will be occupied while this work is in progress (always opposite the houses, on side of the road with odd numbers). As a result, traffic via this part of Grensstraat will remain possible and all homes will remain accessible at all times.

High-voltage cables to be laid starting on 13 September

Elia will start laying high-voltage cables in Grensstraat between Witgoor and Bankloopstraat on 13 September. In this section, Elia will dig a trench in which it will lay the high-voltage cables. It will then refill the trench and restore the road surface. This will take up half of the roadway. Local traffic will remain possible and homes will remain accessible at all times. Through traffic will be diverted via Meirenstraat and Scheidijk. The work will be completed in mid-November 2021.
