Directional drilling in Bankloopstraat to start in May

Elia is laying underground power cables between the high-voltage substations in Herentals and Heze (Geel). This is necessary in order to prepare the grid for rising energy demand in the area.

Elia will begin directional drilling operations in Bankloopstraat in May 2021. Local traffic will still be running during the works, which will last one week.

Directional drilling in Bankloopstraat

Elia will begin directional drilling operations on Monday, 3 May 2021 in Bankloopstraat underneath the intersection with Meikeverstraat. The work will be done in preparation for the trench work in phase 7 between the intersection of Bankloopstraat, Grensstraat and Kerkstraat. Once the directional drilling operations are finished, the drilling holes will be sealed back up and the road surface temporarily restored. Later, the cables will be connected to each other in the holes. Local residents will be able to access their homes at all times during the works. The directional drilling operations will last one week. 

Local traffic will remain possible

In Bankloopstraat the works will be limited to one lane between the intersection with Lichtaartseweg and the second driveway at house number 4, which means that traffic can pass through in turns. Meikeverstraat will remain accessible via Bankloopstraat.
