Restoration of road surface after cable work
On 10 May Elia will begin restoring the road surface in Doornboomstraat, Leeks, Sint-Kristoffelstraat, Klaverhei and Vogelzang, having completed the laying of the 150-kV underground power cables between Geel and Herentals. The project will be carried out in multiple phases.
Road surface to be restored starting in mid-May 2021
From Monday, 3 May to Wednesday, 19 May Elia will restore the road surface in Doornboomstraat, Leeks, Sint-Kristoffelstraat, Klaverhei and Vogelzang. This will only be done in locations where electricity cables were laid in a trench. The project will be carried out in multiple phases. If everything goes according to schedule the project will run until 19 May 2021. See the schedule below:
- All of the preparatory work will be carried out from Monday, 10 May to Friday, 15 May 2021. A foundation will be laid in the open trench for the new road surface. Local traffic will remain possible.
- On Monday, 17 May 2021 the top asphalt layer will be removed across the entire width of the road. Local traffic will still be able to drive over the bottom layer of the road surface.
- On Tuesday, 18 May 2021 the contractor will lay a new layer of asphalt. Since the asphalt has to dry, Doornboomstraat, Leeks, Klaverhei and Vogelzang will be closed to traffic between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. These roads will re-open to traffic at 6 p.m.
Temporary change in traffic rules
On Tuesday, 18 May between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Doornboomstraat, Leeks, Klaverhei and Vogelzang will be closed to all traffic. Local residents will be requested to park their car outside the site zone during the evening of Monday, 17 May. Homes will remain accessible on foot during the project. Klaverhei between Sint-Kristoffelstraat and Antwerpseweg will be closed to all traffic. Traffic in both directions will follow a local diversion via Wolfsbossen.
