Start of phase 3 cable work: Buurtweg 43, Poiel and Velveken in Geel

Elia is laying new 150-kV underground cables between Geel and Herentals. Starting on 17 May Elia will begin laying cables in Buurtweg 43, Velveken and Poiel. There will be a temporary change in traffic rules in those streets while the work is in progress. The work is expected to take about two months. 

Phase 3: laying of underground electricity cables

On Monday, 17 May, Elia will start laying underground electricity cables in Buurtweg 43 (between Poiel and Velveken), in Velveken (between house number 68D and Merenseweg) and in Merenseweg (between Velveken and Haag). The electricity cables will be laid under the roadway. Two directional drilling operations will be executed in Velveken between Buurtweg 43 and Merenseweg. According to the current schedule, the works will take about two months.

Temporary change in traffic rules

The road will be closed in Velveken between Buurtweg 43 (between Poiel and Velveken) and Merenseweg. Through traffic in both directions will be diverted. Residents of Velveken will be able to access their homes at all times during the works. Buurtweg 43 between Poiel and Velveken will be completely closed off. All traffic in both directions will be diverted. Merenseweg will also be closed completely between Velveken and Haag during the works. Here too, traffic in both directions will be diverted.
