Aubange-Belval

Dismantling of the 150kV Aubange–Belval connection
The 150kV double circuit overhead line connecting the Aubange substation to the Belval region in Luxembourg was commissioned in 1962. The Belgian section is 4 km long and comprises 9 lattice pylons. This line has been out of service for several years and is now being dismantled.
The Luxembourg system operators have also begun the process of removing their section of the line.
In Belgium, the work involves the removal of the conductors between Pylons 1 and 9, as well as those between Pylons 9 and 10, on the cross-border section. Once the cables have been removed, pylons P1 to P9 will be dismantled.
The security of the electricity supply in the region will remain fully guaranteed thanks to the meshed Elia grid.

Benefits to societyGuaranteeing the safety and reliability of infrastructure
As part of its role as Belgium's high-voltage system operator, Elia must continually ensure the safety and reliability of its infrastructure. Accordingly, some lines need to be upgraded and others, dismantled. The decision to dismantle a line is taken when it is deemed no longer necessary for the operation of the grid or when it reaches the end of its service life. This is the case for the Aubange-Belval connection.
Guaranteeing security of supply
The security of the electricity supply will continue to be guaranteed by the meshing of the Elia grid, as well as the various upgrades carried out on the grid to meet the region’s changing requirements. -
