E17 closed during the night between 10 and 11 June
As part of the Brabo III project, we are currently upgrading the high-voltage line (380 kV) between Liefkenshoek and the Mercator high-voltage substation in Kruibeke. To this end, during the night between 10 and 11 June we will erect two cranes over the E17 at the Haasdonk interchange. The motorway will consequently be closed between Sint-Niklaas and Kruibeke from 10.30 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Disruption to traffic
In order to erect the cranes, the motorway will be closed in both directions between Sint-Niklaas and Kruibeke from 10.30 p.m. on Tuesday 10 June to 4 a.m. on Wednesday 11 June. In consultation with the police, the Flemish Agency for Roads and Traffic (AWV) and the municipal authorities in the area, the decision was made to completely close the road to best ensure safety while the work is being carried out. There will be a diversion between the Sint-Niklaas (15) and Kruibeke (16) interchanges on the E17.
Work in connection with Brabo III
We are carrying out the work on the Liefkenshoek-Mercator high-voltage line as part of the three-phase Brabo project. The Brabo III subproject involves upgrading Belgium's 380-kV network, which forms the backbone of our grid. This work fosters a smooth and efficient flow of electricity and enhances the stability of the grid while facilitating the exchange of electricity with the Netherlands. Once the work is complete, Elia will be able to transmit up to 20% more electricity on the upgraded power connection, allowing us to also continue guaranteeing security of supply in the future. The work is scheduled to end in late July.
