Underground line project kicks off

The 150 kV overhead line between the Ruien and Chièvres high-voltage substations is nearing the end of its service life. To guarantee security of supply in your region, the current line will be replaced by an underground line of the same voltage (150 kV).

Pursuant to our permit application submitted in July 2022, the Walloon regional authorities awarded us the permits we needed to implement this project. This means that work to lay the new underground line and then dismantle the current overhead line can now begin.

The project kicked off on Monday 9 October 2023 and is scheduled to end in Mid-2025.

For your convenience, Elia has created an interactive map you can consult to keep track of the project.

The map will be updated regularly, enabling you to monitor project progress and learn more about the technologies used and the impact on traffic and mobility. Just click on the interactive map tab to check it out!
