Change to the traffic situation on the Blankenbergse Steenweg from 6 October to 19 December 2025

Work to lay cables under the Blankenbergse Steenweg will start on 6 October 2025. To ensure this work is carried out safely and efficiently, the Steenweg will temporarily become a one-way street for traffic from Bruges to Blankenberge. A diversion will be in place.

The new cable will be laid under the existing roadside and run from the Blauwe Toren high-voltage substation, via the Zeelaan, towards the Blankenbergse Steenweg, the Sint-Pietersmolenstraat and the Oostendse Steenweg and from there on towards the Waggelwaterstraat. The cable route, which will be 6.2 kilometres long, was established in consultation with the city of Bruges, the competent administrative authority and the Agency for Roads and Traffic. The work will take one year to complete.

Change to the traffic situation around the Blankenbergse Steenweg from 6 October to 19 December 2025

To ensure this work is carried out safely and efficiently and also due to the work that the city of Bruges will start to carry out in the Kolvestraat on 6 October 2025, a change will apply to the traffic situation in and around the Blankenbergse Steenweg from 6 October 2025 onwards.

The Blankenbergse Steenweg:

  • One-way traffic between the Kolvestraat and the B-Park roundabout between 6 October and 19 December 2025, in the Blankenberge direction;
  • Two-way traffic will remain in place between the Sint-Pietersmolenstraat and the Kolvestraat until 3 November 2025 (however, traffic heading in the direction of Bruges will use the middle lane);
  • As of 3 November 2025, the section between the Blauwe Poort district and the crossroads with the Kolvestraat will only be accessible to one-way traffic heading towards Blankenberge. So, traffic from the Kolvestraat will no longer be able to turn off towards Bruges.

Traffic heading towards Bruges and the Monnikenwerve industry zone will be diverted via the Arthur Vierendeelweg and the Pathoekeweg.

The Monnikenwerve industry zone

  • Will continue to be accessible via a one-way-traffic clockwise loop in the Monnikenwerve industry zone and on the Kolvestraat and the Blankenbergse Steenweg parallel road
  • Will no longer be accessible via the Blankenbergse Steenweg/Kolvestraat crossroads. Traffic will be able to access the industry zone via the entrance further along the Blankenbergse Steenweg (caution should be taken when crossing the two-way cycle path!).

Traffic will no longer be able to use the exit to the Blankenbergse Steenweg at this location.

However, it will be possible to access the Blankenbergse Steenweg from the Kolvestraat until 3 November 2025, for traffic heading towards both Blankenberge and Bruges.

As of 20 December 2025, two-way traffic will resume between the Kolvestraat and the B-Park roundabout; the central reservation will be utilised for this purpose. One-way traffic between the Kolvestraat and the Sint-Pietersmolenstraat will remain in place longer. Work will then move in the direction of the Sint-Pietersmolenstraat.
