Info market in Wetteren attended by more than thirty people
Elia, the high-voltage grid operator, held an info market in the Wetteren municipal hall in the evening of Tuesday, 4 June, about the laying of the 36kV underground high-voltage cables between Kwatrecht (Melle) and Wetteren. More than thirty interested local residents dropped in at the info market.
Elia informed the thirty local residents about the 36kV underground cables that the high-voltage grid operator wants to install between the Kwatrecht high-voltage substation in Kloosterstraat in Melle and the Wetteren high-voltage substation in Kapellendries. Elia submitted the permit and hopes to start work in spring 2025. In total, the works will take a year and will be carried out in phases, limiting disruption to local residents.
Gent Oost [East Ghent]
The works are part of the Gent-Oost project. With this project Elia is preparing the electricity grid around Ghent for the future by means of restructuring works. A number of electrical installations are reaching their end-of-life and, due to energy transition, higher electricity consumption is expected in the region. Elia wants to prepare the electricity grid around Ghent for this. An info market will soon be held for another part of the route, the underground cable between Flora (Merelbeke) and Sint-Amandsberg.
