Final phase of work to dismantle the Eizeringen-Dilbeek high-voltage line

The final phase of work to dismantle the overhead line (36 kV) between the Dilbeek and Eizeringen high-voltage substations started on 13 October 2025. Since 2022, the Eizeringen high-voltage substation has been powered by an additional 150 kV connection; the 36 kV line from Dilbeek was redundant as a result.

Work to dismantle the overhead line between Dilbeek and Eizeringen began in March 2025. The first phase, which started with the pylon at the intersection between the Bruine-Lieveheerstraat and the Kattenstraat in Dilbeek and ended with the pylon at the Eizeringen high-voltage substation, was completed in June 2025; three pylons were still standing. The final phase of the work started on Monday 13 October 2025 and is scheduled for completion in November 2025.

Work at two locations

The final phase of the work will take place at two locations. On the one hand, the pylons will be dismantled from the high-voltage substation in Dilbeek to the pylon near Stationsstraat 178 in Dilbeek. Most of this part of the work will take place in the Wolfsputten nature reserve.

The second location is the area near the railway line (around the Wijngaardstraat, Kouterstraat, and Plankenveld). This work will involve the dismantling of the three pylons that were not included in the first phase of dismantling work. The electrical cables between the two pylons closest to the railway line will be taken down during the night of 14 to 15 October 2025 – at the same time as scheduled work by Infrabel. This will not disrupt train traffic. The cycle path parallel to the railway line (between the Kouterstraat and Wijngaardstraat and part of the F209 cycle highway) will be closed between midnight and 5.00 a.m. the next morning. Shortly afterwards, the three pylons will be dismantled and the foundations removed. The expectation is that all the work will have been completed by early November 2025.
