Work to commence in January 2026
From January 2026, reinforcement work will commence on the Gramme-Van Eyck overhead line.
We have been granted regional authorisation to carry out the project in both Wallonia and Flanders, following administrative procedures to obtain permits and studies assessing the project's environmental impact.
The work will take a total of five years and will be implemented in four stages:
- Construction of access roads and work platforms,
- Reinforcement and/or replacement of pylons and their foundations,
- Removal of existing conductors and installation of new ones,
- Restoration of all plots of land affected by the work.
This connection also includes a branch line to Lixhe substation in Visé, Wallonia, and André Dumont substation in Genk, Flanders. The work on these parts of the connection will not require the reinforcement of pylons, as this has already been carried out. Only the electrical conductors are affected.
Ongoing information for local residents and authorities
In Wallonia, we will send a letter to all residents living within 100 metres of either side of the route to inform them when work is due to start.
Throughout the works phase and in the event of local impact, Elia's subcontractor will also provide local residents with information by means of a letter.
Meetings with the municipalities are organised prior to the start of work in order to make plans taking local circumstances into account. we intend to continue working closely with the local authorities throughout the duration of the project.
Should you have any questions, please contact Elia at riverains@elia.be or call the freephone number 0800/18 002.
We have created an interactive map showing the installations where work is to be carried out. To view this map and for further information about the project, please visit the project's main page
