Information session on underground cable installation attracts around 50 interested parties
On Thursday 27 November, we organised an information session in Kluisbergen on the installation of the underground cable between Ruien and Chièvres. The information session attracted around 50 interested parties.
We are working on the installation of a 150kV underground cable between the Ruien (Kluisbergen) and Chièvres (Hainaut province) high-voltage substations. The overhead line between the two high-voltage substations is outdated and will eventually be dismantled. It will be replaced by the aforementioned underground cable.
We had already started laying the underground cable in the Flemish Region at the end of 2023, but the work was halted by repeated bentonite leaks. We went back to the drawing board and decided to lay the cable using open trenching rather than directional drilling. We have submitted the permit application and would like to start work in the spring. The work will take a total of six months and will be carried out in phases to limit disruption in terms of time and space. As soon as the cable has been laid and is in service, Elia will start planning the dismantling of the line. This work will start in 2027 at the earliest.
