Following the blackout on the Spanish-Portuguese electricity grid on April 28, 2025, an international Expert Panel was established to investigate the incident. Power system Experts from Elia and 50 Hertz were part of the different working groups. The first official report, which outlines the sequence of events leading up to the blackout, is expected to be published on October 3rd.

Given the significance of this information for our sector, Elia organizes this information webinar in which our colleagues from the National Control Center will explain how the investigation was conducted by the international Expert Panel. They will walk us through the timeline of events that led to the power outage in Spain and Portugal and discuss how the grid was subsequently restored. The webinar will conclude with a discussion of the remaining points of investigation and preliminary lessons that may be relevant for the Belgian grid.
