Advancepublic information meeting on 16 November

Following the cancellation of the meeting originally scheduled for 27 October 2020 due to a spike in COVID cases, on 16 November 2021 Elia will hold the rescheduled advance public information meeting on the environmental impact assessment (EIA) and the Natura 2000 appropriate assessment, as part of the regularisation application relating to the second three-phase transmission line of the 220-kV Aubange-Esch connection (Belgian part).

This meeting is intended to:

  • give Elia a chance to present its project;
  • enable the public to learn more about the project and make observations and suggestions;
  • highlight specific points that may be addressed in the impact assessment;
  • present technical alternatives that may reasonably be considered by the applicant, so that they are taken into account when carrying out the impact assessment.

Therefore, the project team would like to invite you to this advance public information meeting, which will be held on 16 November 2021 at 7.30 p.m. at Salle Polyvalente, Rue Schmit 21, 6790 Aubange.

The submission of this planning permit regularisation application follows the revocation by the Council of State of the planning permit issued previously.

Following this meeting, members of the public will have 2 weeks to submit any comments or suggestions. These will then be considered by an independent consulting firm, approved by the Walloon Region and commissioned to conduct the EIA.

Registration

To enable Elia to ensure full compliance with the current public health measures given the gradual easing of the COVID lockdown and to guarantee everyone's safety, anyone wishing to attend this meeting is cordially invited (but not required) to register ahead of time by clicking on this link (in French)

Public health measures in force on 16 November 2021:

The Walloon Decree of 20 October 2021 on the use of the COVID Safe Ticket (CST) was published in the Belgian Official Gazette on 28.10.2021.

Article 5 of the Decree provides for an exception to the use of the CST when an event is accessed in connection with or with a view to meeting a legal or regulatory obligation

Since the advance public information meetings for category B projects are a legal obligation under Article 29-5 of the Environmental Code, Elia will not be able to require the use of the COVID Safe Ticket for the meeting on 16.11.2021.

Consequently, social distancing, mask wearing and other preventive measures must be applied for this meeting, as provided under Article 10 of the Walloon Decree.
