Environmental Management System (EnvMS)

Elia has an environmental management system based on the principles of standard ISO14001:2015.

Governance

The governance of the environmental management system is as follows:

  • The Executive Committee approves the management review and the resulting action plan annually.
  • The management review and action plan are validated by the Sustainability Board chaired by the EnvMS Manager (Head of Sustainability).
  • The management review and action plan are prepared by the EnvMS Coordinator and the departments concerned.

The EnvMS Coordinator from the Sustainability Department is responsible for ensuring that the environmental management system is properly implemented.

The management system is supported by an environmental data management system.

Environmental policy

The implementation of this system reflects a company management commitment on:

  • Compliance with legal obligations;
  • Continuous improvement of the company's environmental performance;
  • Environmental protection, the prevention of pollution, sustainable use of resources, mitigation of and adaption to climate change, and the protection of biodiversity and ecosystems.

Environmental training

This management system allows the departments concerned to ensure that Elia employees who carry out tasks with a potential environmental impact have the appropriate training.

All Elia employees receive introduction to environmental management and the environmental incident management training.

The environmental experts are responsible for updating the learning modules whenever a new relevant environmental element appears.

The training plan is reviewed annually and any necessary changes are proposed to the executive committees.

Environmental protection

Through this environmental management system, Elia seeks to strengthen its commitment to greater environmental protection and awareness-raising among its employees.

The Sustainability Department oversees environmental issues and performs the following functions:

  • Monitoring legislative developments.
  • Taking a proactive approach to environmental issues and monitoring trends.
  • Proposing improvement measures.
  • Implementing legal obligations and company policies in the following areas: soil, noise, water, biodiversity, landscape, waste, electromagnetic fields and mobility, etc.
  • External environmental reporting.
