What is Elia's Hackathon?

Elia's hackathon is a 3-day immersive event where innovative minds come together to solve a critical challenges in grid management.

Why does it matter?

Massive electrification is placing increasing pressure on our electrical grid. Traditional solutions involve expanding infrastructure, but these take time and come with steep financial and societal costs. This hackathon is a call for bold thinkers and energy enthusiasts to explore smarter ways to maximize the efficiency of existing systems.

What’s the challenge?

Your challenge is to develop a strategy for optimizing substation management to safely exceed their predefined limit enabling substations to handle increased loads, maximizing their potential, and thereby delaying or even reducing the need for costly grid reinforcements. Specifically, you will model substation overload to determine its limits and impacts and formulate a plan to facilitate electrification within existing time and resource constraints.

We’re calling on creative thinkers, data wizards, and problem-solvers to help us reimagine the future of substations. You’ll dive into historical data, collaborate with experts, and build solutions that could transform how we manage the grid. It’s your chance to leave a mark on the energy transition—and have some fun doing it.

What you can expect
